In 1982 Congress passed the Indian Claims Limitation Act (Pub. L. 97-394). Among other things, the act mandated that the Secretary of the Interior create and publish in the federal register a list of all claims filed under an obscure 1966 law (28 U.S.C. § 2415). The law established a six-year statute of limitations on the United States' ability to sue third parties for monetary damages involving trespass on government lands, including trust lands.

Before now the list of approximately 17,000 claims only existed in paper and low resolution PDFs. Here you will find an easy to use database of all claims.
